Date: October 23, 2016
Location: Mt. Airy Forest, Cincinnati, OH
Distance: 27K/3,160 ft elevation gain
Finish: 3:00:19 (20th Overall/6th Place Age Group (1-29))
Notes: I had a great first half of the race. I was in 6th place through the first 8-10 miles. Perhaps my pace was a hair too fast but most likely it was not the reason for my second half slow down.
Second half: I should plan to eat more food for trail runs and more hydration to avoid cramping in the last 3 miles. I did not anticipate the trails punishing your body that much more than a road race. More practice is needed maneuvering through rocks, mud, trees, and logs. Your hips and upper thighs take a beating throughout the race. This does not happen during road races.
Overall a good showing considering it was my first ever trail run. However, I would like to have my last 3 miles back to finish in top 10. It was a beautiful forest and elevation gain was a fun challenge. My goal is to complete the 50k at the end of the race season in 2017.
